WINNER
OF WEEK 123 HIP-HOP/URBAN:
"Oh
My God (featuring Obie Trice)" by SOL
!
Artist
Information:
BIO:
Born in Southwest Detroit, Carlos Guadarrama p.k.a. SOL would move to
Mexico at an early age. Though in time the divorce of his parents would
force SOL, his mother and brother Amado to relocate back to Michigan.
Growing up in the downriver area, still at a young age SOL began to perform.
By fifth grade he had already started to showcase his natural talents
in local shows and plays. Around town SOL often shined as a skilled break-dancer
taking after his uncle, a breaker from the old neighborhood. Even though
SOL was brought up around many different styles of music such as R&B,
Classic Rock and most Latin music. He was intrigued by his uncles rap
collection. One of his favorites was "The Power" by Ice-T. "That
was definitely a big influence on me as a kid" SOL remembers. By
seventh grade SOL was appearing on stage with his crew "The Kings
of Power". The summer before heading into high school SOL formed
the duo "Telepath Math" with a close friend and local MC. After
8 years, 5 of which were spent in the lab, SOL's hobby had grown to become
his obsession. Despite gaining major local support, "Telepath Math"
just didn't seem to be that vision SOL was on a mission to pursue. "I
always felt that I was meant to be a solo artist," recalls SOL. And
since sharing the stage with such musical greats as Kid Capri, Slum Village,
Obie Trice, Eminem, Royce Da 5'9, MC Breed and D-12, SOL knows it is now
time to invade and conquer the world with his unique style and sound.
This sound described by SOL is a melting pot of emotions and ideas mixed
with real life experiences. He credits his trials and tribulations as
a young Latino to be one of many major influences to him, plus keeping
strong ties with Mexico and his old neighborhood are what he feels keep
him rooted.
Featured
in several published print media throughout the Midwest, SOL has received
an extensive amount of rave reviews. Not to mention being hailed the "Next
To Blow" by Blaze Magazine. Currently SOL is shopping a major label
deal with such hits as the club bangin track "Tell A Soul",
already receiving airplay
in Detroit, L.A., Dallas and Chicago. Plus, "Oh My God" featuring
Obie Trice of Shady Records. And the undeniable bi-lingual Mexican-American
anthem "Enfuego" burning up the clubs in Detroit as we speak.
All songs featured on SOL's sophmore full-length album entitled "The
Enfuego L.P." set to release nationally Summer 2004. SOL is on the
verge of becoming the biggest Latino Hip Hop artist to date. And it is
only a matter of time until this hidden secret is unleashed for ALL to
witness and enjoy.
