WINNER OF WEEK 132 alternative music:
Fat
Moon by Jontom
It's
late night in Rome. Students and workers are waiting to start
another day, dreaming on their pillows while the solitaire buzz
of a computer in a dark city flat pushes Jontoms melodies to life:
nocturnal sounds, remote desires of a teenager covered by daytime
shyness, and an abnormal vision of rock music in a one-way street.
Luca Jontom Tomassini was born in Rome, Italy at the dawn of the
videogame era. It was 1979 and those glitchy sounds he heard were
to feature in the music he was to create, even at the age of five.
Ten years worth of hard disks and classical piano lessons later,
while the Grunge era was falling asleep, he sent his passionate
melodies over the web, earning the attention of electronic music
lovers worldwide. Entrancing guitars, computerized moods, soundscapes
of minimalism and oriental moods make up a Jontom environment.
Jontom uses a Pentium4, Intel 2800 with 1Gb of RAM, and plenty
of VST plug-ins to create a sonic environment that is mysterious
and sincere. His sounds rise from a warm Scholze piano, an acoustic
guitar, a Washburn electric guitar and noises from everyday's
life, then are electronically stretched and twisted to create
music that is slick, spacious
and alternative.
The first idea Luca thought of was to melt his high-school nickname
Jonathan and his surname Tomassini into an artist name: Jontom.
His name suddendly popped up worldwide through his awarded multimedia
creations, loops and complex tracks. The second idea was to melt
his rock roots and child roots, the wildness of grunge era and
mathematical sounds of computers.
Obviously he can't stop : it would be going against his own nature.
Hes actually working on several soundtracks for theatrical productions
to be shown all over Italy and assembling an EP made of 3 authentic,
brand new Jontom master pieces.
You or Nothing At All was released on March 2003 over the web.
It is a collection of songs featured on several music sites and
mp3 players all over the planet. You can get your copy at www.cdbaby.com/jontom
or through the Jontom official website at www.jontom.net
